Estella Dawn, Salt Review

Estella Dawn is a New Zealand born, US based songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Dawn has meticulously been creating an impressive set of songs that are well-written and filled with her commanding vocals and piano playing. Her songs contain thoughtful lyrics conveyed through her impressive tessitura and colored by layers of vocal harmony and counterpoint. Dawn’s songs enjoyed many high points, “I Dare You” charted on the media base Radio Top 40 chart and she has been interviewed by and had songs added to many radio stations. Dawn released five singles in 2021 and now she is beginning 2022 with another solid selection titled “Salt.” Dawn is also in the studio creating a full-length album due out in the spring of 2022. The album will be an exquisitely layered mixture of band arrangements, modern pop production, and vocal agility.

Dawn’s “Salt” has an irresistible blend of electronica and pop. Filled with her signature vocal layering, the melody has a set of strong lyrics that will engage you emotionally as you feel the music. Dawn has strong views about the world and is not afraid to share them through her engaging, candid music. “I’ve always seen my internal darkness as wolves, I’m either part of the pack, or on the run from the parts of myself that scare me. But no matter which side I’m on, they’re always there. When the pack is descending and my mind starts spiraling it feels like all I can do is keep my head down and set one foot in front of the other, just getting through the day in hope of a better tomorrow.” She adds, “we all have our own ways to cope, whether it’s having a cry sitting on the floor of your shower or screaming along to aggressive rock music in the car, buying too many house plants or finding comfort in somebody else’s company, drinking, smoking, eating, the list goes on. We’re all just doing our best.” “Salt” will certainly flavor our life events with dance appeal, as Dawn’s warm vocals are easy to enjoy and her use of layering vocal harmonies and counterpoint makes each section a new discovery of sonic flavors.
