Charlotte Lansman, Never Forget Review
Charlotte Lansman is a London based Bristol-born singer. Her diverse upbringing of an American father, a British mother from North-East England, and secondary schooling in Wales, Lansman’s musical surroundings had many styles – from Country music (Garth Brooks) to 60s and 70s Rock (The Eagles, The Beetles, Lou Reed), Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones, to Tracy Chapman and Nina Simone, to Nirvana and RHCP. Lansman is now combining her early influences with the sounds of jazz and soul to create her music. Using her powerful contralto tones and her poetic, profoundly personal songwriting skills, she is a new and unique voice on the UK music scene. Lansman is now releasing her second single, “Never Forget.”
Bottom Line: “Never Forget” is an empowerment song that will inspire. Lansman describes the inspiration, “This one is for every person that has decided to not go quietly into the night. Choose not to be down-beaten by someone that strays, instead, rise up stronger knowing that they’ll never forget someone as good as you.” Beginning with a steady piano figure, “Never Forget” grows in instrumentation and a melody that rises from Lansman’s warm lower contralto tones to her upper register. The instruments’ different rhythmic activity levels add to the song’s interest as it progresses through the form. The soul influence can be heard in her vocal phrasing and the melodies’ melodic/harmonic relationships. Lansman’s skills will only get more robust, and as her catalog grows, so will her popularity. She is one to follow, and that’s the short of it!Connect with Charlotte Lansman: Website |
