Hailing from Australia, vocalist and composer Alyson Murray has a wonderful warm round voice that has a nice mix of soul, funk, jazz, and R&B. Her singing style is energetic and captivating, at the young age of 16, Murray received an Outstanding Potential Award from the Australian Girls Choir (AGC). She was also selected to perform in The Boy From Oz, Hugh Jackman production in Melbourne, and many other public performances including several Australian Football league Grand Final pre-entertainment performances and the ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ Qantas advertisement. Murray went on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Art Contemporary Music in 2015 at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), where she was awarded the Agnes Robertson Contemporary Music Foundation Scholarship in her first year. Murray’s much-anticipated debut album Breathe was written and recorded in New York with British/Nigerian composer, arranger, producer and bassist, Michael Olatuja. Olatuja assisted with the production of Breathe alongside Ted Tuthill, a New York sound engineer. Also, on the album is: pianist Jon Cowherd, drummer Lee Pearson and guitarist Nir Felder. The six tracks celebrate the richness of Murray’s vocal tone and energetic flare. Her first single from the album, “I Got You,” divulges the vocalist ability to convey adventure, energy, and passion, all set to a hip funky beat that will make you want to move! That’s the short of it!
