Val Giamo, Jade Review
Val Giamo is a Russian born singer, pianist, songwriter, composer, and record producer that is now based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Giamo’s early days were spent working with a wide range of bands in different styles in various musical projects. In 2018, Giamo moved to Sweden to devote a year to writing piano music. In early 2019, Fragments was released with ten fragments, played by piano and cello. The pieces were designed to reflect different seasons and moods centered around mint or burgundy. In 2019, Giamo wrote the composition Flying Above The Winds for a compilation of Project 12 by the label Deutsche Grammophon / Universal Music Group. Giamo is planning to release a new piano and cello album titled People You Will Never Meet, which is inspired by one of her favorite films, Wings of Desire. The album will release on September 18, 2020. Now she is releasing a solo piano composition titled, “Jade.”
Bottom Line: “Jade” pulls from the traditional sounds of the European classical canon of harmonic and melodic developments while also sounding of New Age influence. The melody is simple, but Giamo’s development of the theme and harmonic structures adds to the composition’s depth. Her piano playing is just as beautiful as the composition, as she plays with a singing touch and well-placed dynamics. Her (Neo) Classical sound is filled with atmospheric imagery. There are moments of Debussy, even if it is the melody is poetic in nature. Giamo’s harmony and orchestration of the harmonic and melodic structures of the composition are very pleasing. “Jade” is a beautiful atmospheric solo piano piece performed with sensitivity and purpose. That’s the short of it!Connect with Val Giamo: Website |
