Amós Lora, Vivo Sueño Review
Amós Lora is a flamenco guitarist that began playing the instrument at the age of three, under the direction of his father, Manuel Lora. Since then, Lora has become a performer and recording artist. He has performed at numerous festivals, concerts, and tv and radio shows. He has been featured in the documentary Niños Flamencos by director Katherina Hager. Filmed in Madrid, Salamanca, Almería, Ciudad Rodrigo, and Prague, the documentary shows Amos Lora’s life and music snapshots. Since 2018, Lora has been teaching courses and masterclasses on guitar. Lora performed for master Paco de Lucía in a private concert where the Master was surprised by the talented boy. Two years later, Lora recorded his first CD, Cerro Negro, on which Paco de Lucía wrote on the album’s back cover, “Amós, if you keep on playing like this, we may as well all start looking for another job.” Lora is also a jazz lover; being a self-taught student of this music genre, he finds inspiration in John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Chick Korea, George Benson, and Pat Metheny. Paco de Lucía says, “He plays Zyryab different than anyone… The boy is a jewel. He is the only one who plays his own Zyryab. All the others play mine.” Al di Meola said the following of Lora’s playing, “Oh my god, we are in trouble now. He’s incredible.” Lora is now releasing his new single titled “Vivo Sueño,” featuring the vocalist Big Lois.
“Vivo Sueño” has a contemporary flamenco sound with the vocals of Big Lois. Lora’s guitar style is melodic and focused on tone and rhythmic precision. The song form flows with various sections and feels and has a balance of featuring both Lora’s guitar playing and Big Lois’ vocals. A solid salsa-inspired bridge section adds to the song’s flow and brings in a robust world sound. The ensemble is balanced and performs beautifully in their support of Lora and Big Lois. Overall, “Vivo Sueño” is a catchy selection that features excellent guitar playing by Lora and passionate singing by Big Lois. Flamenco and world music fans will undoubtedly enjoy this selection. That’s the short of it!
