The Struts, Strange Days Review
The Struts is a rock band formed in Derby, England, in 2012. They quickly built a following with their outrageous live show and well-received debut EP, Have You Heard. The band opened for The Rolling Stones in front of a crowd of 80,000 in Paris and toured the U.S. on a string of sold-out shows. The Struts are Luke Spiller – Lead Vocals; Addo Slack – Guitar and Vocals; Jed Elliott – Bass and Vocals; and Gethin Davies – Drums. As the frontman points out, the band’s mission is to make an unforgettable impact on the crowd. “We believe in giving our absolute all every night because that’s what our fans deserve,” he says. “The goal is always to get everyone dancing and screaming and shouting, and to make sure they leave dripping in sweat with huge smiles on their faces.” The Struts have a new album called Strange Days. They convey, “We were born to do this. And we’ll die doing it.”
Bottom Line: Strange Days is ten tracks of well-sung and guitar-based selections. There are guest appearances by Robbie Williams, Joe Elliott, and Phil Collen, and Albert Hammond Jr. The title Track, “Strange Days,” was written over ten days in Quarantine Lockdown. The song features Robbie Williams on vocals joining Spiller. The two vocalists switch verses and choruses, giving the song an excellent vocal dynamic. The song is given a hip string arrangement by Andres Soto. The last chorus is a powerful moment when both singers sing together with the backing vocals and strings. “I Hate How Much I Want You” is a standout once you get past the talking at the beginning of the track. They should have placed that bit as a separate track, so when the song is in your playlist, you do not have to listen to almost thirty seconds of a telephone conversation. The song has a great melody, cool harmonized guitar parts, and a big chorus. “Another Hit of Showmanship” is another earworm with Hammond Jr. adding his talents. The Struts evolve their sound with a little more polish and glam rock combined with their underground rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Not hard enough for hard rock, but still pushing the classic rock boundaries. Strange Days is a fan pleaser and will gain them more fans as they discover The Struts unique classic rock sound. That’s the short of it!Connect with The Struts: Website |
