The fabled frontman of the band Korn, Jonathan Davis, has released his debut solo album titled, Black Labyrinth. Containing thirteen songs that focus on Davis’ melodic and robust vocal abilities, the tracks where primarily recorded live to tape, a departure from Korn’s heavily designed, meticulous, studio approach to creation. There are certainly moments when the Korn sound is obvious, but Black Labyrinth has middle eastern sounding instruments with a dark vibe that is melodic and atmospheric. There are moments when Davis’ singing is accentuated by subtle hints of sitar and tabla, but also there are the straightforward arena-rock tracks. Davis’ unique and memorable vocals, full synths and exceptional heavy guitars are still prevalent throughout the album. Black Labyrinth brings out the true essence of Davis’ various music styles and puts them together in a musical masterpiece. That’s the short of it!

Songs that explore a wide range of instrument colors, styles and moods. Davis’ voice is transformative.
If you have been a fan of Korn from the beginning, you will certainly enjoy Davis’ debut solo album, Black Labyrinth. Though the album expands the styles and sounds, it still has the hard-hitting songs, and notable softer songs. Thought it took ten years to create, the album pays off, he was able to add a unique touch to each track. Davis has an amazing voice and Black Labyrinth shows how musically artistic and talented he is, taking his artistry further than his explorations with Korn. Davis has proven that he is not only the frontman of a great band, but his talents as a solo artist will indeed make him a LEGENDARY ROCK STAR.
