The Sweet Kill, Night Terror Creeper Review
Bringing us the dark side of pop is an artist by the name of The Sweet Kill. A one-man mysterious pop synth project swelling with emotion. The dark lord is lead-singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Pete Mills. Mills channels the energy of the suicide of his band-mate, and personal battles with addiction to find liberation from inner demons in music. Preceding the origin of The Sweet Kill,Mills had an extensive career in the music industry. Signing with Nikki Sixx’s label with his former band Flash Bastard and getting kicked off the North American Motley Crue tour. Ultimately moving to Los Angeles, Mills put his energy into a producing career. Beginning with a co-production credit for SoulKid1’s smash hit song “We Got More Bounce In California” with Michael Patterson (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club). This single’s notoriety captured the attention of many labels. It started a long chain of Mills successfully working with a myriad of artists, including Sheryl Crow, Moving Units, Teddy Riley, among others. Beginning in 2018, The Sweet Kill started his re-entry into the spotlight of performing again with multiple singles, read our review of “Give It Up” (HERE). In May of 2019, he released a six-song EP titled, Love & Death. The Sweet Kill is now finishing up 2019 with a new single titled, “Night Terror Creeper.” The lyrics expose the trauma buried deep within one’s soul as The Sweet Kill takes us on a fun journey through clean guitar riffs, buzz saw synths, and a slick EDM inspired groove.
Positives: A beautiful blend of electronica and dark pop with a solid dose of rock. Mills’ has a dynamic voice, mad instrumental skills, and an ear for production. Bottom Line: “Night Terror Creeper” has lyrics inspired by the emotions of when the conscious mind goes to sleep; the body is taken hostage by the subconscious horror of the Night Terror Creeper. Mills explains, “Night Terror Creeper is a true story about the night terrors that have haunted me. I would wake up to holes I’ve punched through the walls and broken windows with blood all over my bed.” The Sweet Kill tells his story through a solid song form. His latest releases feature the drumming of Darren King (Mutemath), mixer Dave “Rave” Ogilvie (Marilyn Manson), and co-producer Voli (Bebe Rexha). The melody is memorable, and the flow between the different feels keeps the music developing an interesting. Accompanying the single is a creative video, inspired by horror movies, Mills collaborated with director Jamie Mitchell and dancer and choreographer Andrea Feyler.
