The Rooks are a soulful R&B/Soul band based in New York that are putting out soulful music that has substance and personality. With the solid singing of front man, Garth Taylor, the band has a sound that is based in developing grooves that feel good, as the expressive singing captivates. The Rooks have gaining substantial recognition with their debut EP Something You Can Take (2013), the follow-up single, “Twister” (2014) and their second EP Wires, which debuted on Afropunk in June 2015. They received Deli Magazine’s Artist of the Month award (2014), and were the winners of the 14th Annual Independent Music Awards in the R&B/Soul category. The Rooks are now releasing a full-length album titled, Bend. The Rooks present nine tunes deeply rooted in the R&B/Soul tradition, but they still pull from today’s sounds with influences of electronica and pop. The record was produced by Grammy Award-winner Yaron Fuchs (Herbie Hancock, Soulive) and Grammy Award-winning engineer Neil Dorfman (Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Sting), along with the power trio rhythm section of Steve Wolf (Beyoncé, Alicia Keys), Bobby Sparks (Snarky Puppy, St. Vincent), and Yossi Fine (David Bowie, Meshell Ndegeocello). That’s the short of it!
