Tess Posner, Our Time Review
Tess Posner is a singer and songwriter that is also the CEO of an award-winning nonprofit organization in the Bay Area. Focusing on increasing diversity in the tech sector, her work as an activist has won her press coverage from USA Today, Fast Company, the Wall St. Journal, MSNBC, Forbes, the Atlantic, Fortune, Entrepreneur Magazine, and other major outlets. Posner’s music is socially conscious and outspoken as well, often weaving psychological and political themes throughout her lyrics. Her sound brings powerful vocals, haunting melodies and atmospheric rhythms together to bring the listener to a pop sound that is meaningful and danceable. Her EP, One Thousand Petals, was released in 2018, and in 2019 she released four singles, “Supernova,” “The Mask,” “Feels Like Freedom,” and “New Angels.” The four singles have included collaborations with several well-known producers, including Trey Vittetoe (Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry) and Sal Oliveri (P!nk, Carrie Underwood, Ryan Tedder). Posner is now starting 2020 with another beautiful single titled, “Our Time.”
Positives: A relaxed feel frames Posner’s sensual vocal style as she leads us through a solid song form. Bottom Line: “Our Time” is a song about coming to terms with trying to be everything to everyone and failing. It’s a collaboration with Arthur Pingrey, a producer and songwriter (Sia, Norah Jones, Flo Rida), and recorded at the historic Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, CA. The instrumentation is sparse, which allows Posner’s vocal style and lyrics to be the focus. The vocal harmonies add interest as does the subtle synth pads. The drums are varied and vibrant, pulling from both the pop and electronica genres without falling into the standard stale patterns. It certainly seems to be Posner’s time as she continues to build a solid musical catalog of well-written songs. That’s the short of it!Connect with Tess Posner: Website |
