Lola Lennox, La La Love Me Review
Lola Lennox is a singer, songwriter, and musician who has played the piano and sung since she was seven years old and started writing her own songs from fifteen. Her singing and songwriting earned her a place at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2020, Lola performed a duet with her mother, Annie Lennox, for their much-talked-about performance of “There Must Be An Angel” for Global Citizen One World: Together At Home audience of over 270 million viewers. In 2019, Lennox collaborated with Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory on the soundtrack for the “Serengeti” docu-series, narrated by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong and aired in over 35 countries around the world (including the U.K. on BBC and the U.S. on Discover Network). Lola’s latest single is titled “La La Love Me” and is a soul-inspired ode to escapism bedded in a soundscape filled with exuberant rhythms and cascading melodies.
Bottom Line: “La La Love Me” was the most played record on Radio 2 earlier this month, and it entering the Top 10 of the U.K. Radio Airplay Charts. Accompanying the song is a music video directed by Lola’s childhood friend, British photographer, and director, Grace Pickering (Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Calvin Harris, Tyler The Creator). The video depicts Lola living out a daydream, inviting the viewer to join her in a celebration of life, love, and colorful fantasy. The video climaxes with sparkling gold and soft light performance, highlighting the soulful prowess of the song. When we are not getting out much, “La La Love Me” encourages us to find our own sense of joyful inspiration, even when alone at home. Lola explains, “In a year where we cannot live normally, I’ve found it uplifting to daydream and go to places in my mind that feel like a colourful oasis; the La La Love Me video is an expression of that. It’s a heightened reality of colour, sparkling dreams, and a party for one. The song expresses the excitement and nerves of having feelings for someone but ultimately is a celebration of a lust for life. Working with one of my oldest friend’s Grace Pickering as director, was a total joy; she understands my taste particularly well because we’ve been dressing up and talking about our style inspirations since we were teenagers. This video was created to excite, inspire and encourage people to let go and turn up the music.” “La La Love Me” instantly pulls you in with a retro beat and a catchy vocalized melody that rings with Lola’s powerful vocal sound. The song was written by Lola and Carl Ryden and produced by Annie Lennox alongside Dan Muckala and Braeden Wright. The chorus has solid production, and Lola’s singing the unforgettable melody with style and attitude. The song features multiple vocal layers floating in over the soul bass line. Lola has the vocal chops and songwriting skills, and we are looking forward to hearing much more of her ASAP. That’s the short of it!Connect with Lola Lennox: Website |
