The New Zealand singer Kimbra is back with her third full-length record titled, Primal Heat. The album has twelve tracks and is produced by Kimbra and John Congleton. The album is representative of a more matured artist and songwriter and the music has influences from around the world, but always has a beat that makes you wanna move something. Kimbra’s singing is wonderful, and her lyrics deal with relate-able subjects and the melodies are memorable with fresh sounds that bring something different to world of pop. Her music continues to be innovative and devoid of the formula and overuse of auto-tune. Kimbra is absolutely an incredible talent. Primal Heart is an outstanding production that is rich in quality songwriting, funky world influenced grooves, quietly aching ballads and Kimbra’s singing is emotional and technically flawless, which makes her music beyond compare! That’s the short of it!

The is an evolution from Kimbra’s previous work, slightly darker, but more emotional and clear in direction and flow. Nice world music sounds are throughout the project, for example, the African-style vocal harmonies and percussive beat that “Top of the World” is built on. Combine that with Kimbra’s creative songwriting and this offers something unlike anything on the pop airwaves today.
