(G)I-DLE, DUMDi DUMDi Review

(G)I-DLE is a South Korean K-Pop girl group formed in 2018 by Cube Entertainment that consists of six members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soojin, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua. In 2019, (G)I-DLE reached worldwide recognition ignited by the I made EP and the standout single “Senorita.” Going viral, the latter racked up 87 million YouTube views and 44 million-plus Spotify streams. (G)I-DLE gained momentum as one of Mnet’s Queendom’s most popular acts, an American Idol-type show with a reality TV format. As they went up against more established K-Pop artists known throughout Korea, (G)I-DLE quickly became the fan favorite and the highlight of every episode. On the show’s finale, and to the delight of fans worldwide, they initially released “Lion,” garnering immediate critical acclaim and trending on Twitter for the first three days after release. “Lion” spent four weeks on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart, and Billboard voted it “One of the Top 25 K-Pop Songs Released in 2019.” The K-Pop starlets have received multiple awards, including “Best Performance” at the annual Golden Disc Awards and “The World K-POP Rookie Award” from the GAON Chart Music Awards. They also performed at the Golden Disc Music Awards in January to an uproar of fan cheers and other critically acclaimed artists such as BTS, MONSTA X, TWICE, and others. 2020 has been (G)I-DLE’s most significant and boldest year yet expanding their reach into North America. In the video, MIYEON is an actress on vacation by herself, MINNIE is a wanderer exploring freedom, SOOJIN never leaves the house, SOYEON is driving her convertible, YOUQI is a cowgirl in the desert, and SHUHUA is a lively part-timer. The video is as striking as the music, both you will enjoy through multiple explorations. The song has a catchy vocal riff, a fun chorus, and each vocalist brings their own style to the verse.
