Eva Snyder, Transparent Review

Eva Snyder is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter that feeds on the inspiration of her bi-coastal lifestyle. The singer-songwriter is originally from Western Mass; she moved to California and then moved to Nashville, TN. Once there, Snyder combined California’s pop sounds with her country surroundings to create a flirty, sassy, and hard truth lyrical style. Snyder released her first EP, Balance, as her college thesis, and now she is releasing her first single from her upcoming EP. The single is called “Transparent.”

Bottom Line: “Transparent” results from Snyder experimenting with pop sounds while still focusing on country lyrics and stories. Snyder explains, “Writing this song was very therapeutic for me. I find that it resonates with others when they hear it and the honesty woven into the lyrics pulls emotions from people they didn’t know they had at that moment. It’s a powerful anthem about self-love, and it’s the song that I blast in the car when I’m on my way home.” She wrote the lyrics by herself on the floor of her San Francisco one-bedroom apartment before relocating to Nashville. If you listen carefully to her diction, you can hear her Massachusetts accent mixing in with her country sounds. Opening with a hip guitar figure, Snyder proceeds to sing a catchy melody with an interesting lyrical pattern. Her variations in the theme are delightful. Even when singing a melody line, that repeats, she changes her inflections and ending of phrases to add variety. There are some nice glissandos, and she moves to her upper register to add drama and excitement. The vocalized melody before the break-down is a slick touch. Snyder has a gift for songwriting, and her singing delivers her message with authority and beautiful variances. That’s the short of it!
