Aaron Taos, Birthday Boy Review
Aaron Taos is a Brooklyn based vocalist and song writer that has been amassing a catalog of tunes that are melodic and have a wide variety of styles. Throughout 2018, Taos has been steadily releasing singles leading up to his new release titled, Birthday Boy. The album is a ten track semi-concept album about growing older and the personal exploration through the lens of the expectations we place on ourselves in relation to getting older. Taos decided that he need to take control of the writing process and to write tracks alone and produce them as well. He spent the summer in Connecticut to focus on the music with no distractions and rekindle his initial love of writing and recording his own music. Birthday Boy certainly continues to ride the wave he is creating with a solid output of alternative pop sounds.
Positives: Taos has a solid song writing style, his melodies are memorable, and his song forms have variety. He also has lyrics that flow and are easy to relate to and enjoy. Bottom Line: Birthday Boy is full of honest lyric writing and with Taos taking the productions reins, each track is catered to his strengths. The first track on the album, “Birthday Blues” starts the theme with Taos’ warm and inviting timber and singing style. The last single released before Birthday Boy hit the streets was “Hands,” which accompanying music video featured Meryl Streep’s daughter, Louisa Gummer. “Hands” has stacked over a million plays on Spotify. Taos pulled in three guest artists on Birthday Boy, to very good effect, which are: “Where I Belong (feat. Lord Felix),” “Is It Anything? (feat. Khary)” and “Denial (feat. Tedy Brewski).” We enjoyed and reviewed, “Loneliness,” in which Taos’ voice and hip lyrics impressed us, read the review HERE. With elements of electronica, pop and rock, Taos brings a solid sound to his alternative pop songwriting, he has a knack for writing very memorable melodies and that is at the core what makes Birthday Boy a solid musical present well-worth opening.
