Sleeping Dragon, Bulletproof Review
Sleeping Dragon is a high-energy trio that combines live performances that feature electronics and instruments. The trio is drums – Jake Woodward, keyboards – Chris Howard and fretless bass and effects – Callum Williams. The trio creates a cinematic electronic sound that is the perfect combination of live musicians performing with real instruments that also use today’s technology to augment the sonic possibilities. The result is something that is organic and stretches past any one genre. Sleeping Dragon highlights from 2019 include being hand-picked to open for Snarky Puppy offshoot band FORQ at their Liverpool UK show, and playing the Evolved Artists Electronic Festival alongside electronic acts from all over the world (headlined by KOSHEEN). Sleeping Dragon is now releasing the single off their upcoming EP that features the robust sounds of guitarist Jack Gardiner. The song is titled “Bulletproof.”
Positives: The screaming synths and big bass and drums fill the space with excitement and a fresh sound that needs to be heard. Bottom Line: “Bulletproof” begins with the trio establishing an infectious groove that is just as much jazz fusion as it is electronica. The dance element of the beat is undoubtedly in full force as the synth melody floats over the bass and drum hits. Woodward’s hi-hat work is stirring as the verse builds back to the driving chorus. The energy Sleeping Dragon creates is only achieved by live musicians working together in tandem in a live setting to create a feeling and musical atmosphere that is alive and evolving. The influences of jazz, rock, and fusion are melded seamlessly into the electronica beat and sound schemas. Guitarist Gardiner’s solo adds to the song with his fluidity and musical touch. The various techniques he uses in his solo is also a melding of styles with tapping, chromaticism, and emotional bends. Sleeping Dragon is not a sound you want to sleep on, wake up, and get you some! That’s the short of it!Connect with Sleeping Dragon: Website |
