Atroxity, Chasing The Wolves Review
Atroxity is a producer and composer of electronica across a multitude of styles. Residing in Oslo, Norway, he’s been a part of the local clubbing scene and media since the nineties. His experiences as a radio jockey for contemporary hit stations for almost a decade and a club DJ around the turn of the century have allowed him to have a tremendous ear for influences. He was also the founder and editor-in-chief of the main online concert and club culture magazine for Oslo (Norway) for more than a decade, as well as working as a TV host and voice actor. Atroxity’s music is varied, but always with a techno and progressive house influence bubbling under the surface. Up until 2016, his music was only shared amongst DJ colleagues, friends, and in the know networks. Atroxity took his first step into the public with his debut album Newland Punks in November 2016, on limited distribution. After The Fall followed in May 2018. A remastered, remixed, and revised version of the first album, dubbed Newland Punks Refuelled, was released on Oct 19th, 2018. Atroxity is now releasing Chasing The Wolves. A collection of four well-written tracks. Opening with two massive and deep house grooves for the dance floors. It continues with a house track featuring crowd sounds that were recorded at a demonstration in New York. The EP is rounded off with one wild firework of a remix of his 2018 single “Baby On Crack.”
Positives: Atroxity constructs music that has a strong emotional pull coupled with an infectious dance beat.Bottom Line: Chasing The Wolves delivers dance beat that evolves with harmonic and melodic colors that set a mood for both listening and dancing. The title track opens the EP with a vibrant beat and cymbals pattern. Different instruments bring in various themes and rhythmic hooks. “The Day Death Stranded” keeps the same energy, and approximate BPM as Atroxity again develops his composition with solid production, a balanced mix, and catchy melodies. The tension and release of the feels are well-placed and make musical sense. The build to the drop is methodical and musical. The new mix of “Baby On Crack” is an adventure in production skills as Atroxity shows his considerable expertise in the studio and command of electronica production. Overall, a tremendously enjoy set of four tunes that keep the dance beat in focus while still pushing the envelope of electronica. That’s the short of it!
