Australian born Troy Roberts is a New York City based saxophonist and composer that is a two-time Grammy nominated saxophonist. Roberts has been maintaining a serious performance and recording schedule with some of the greatest jazz artists of today including: Joey DeFrancesco’s new quartet, ‘The People.’ Joey DeFrancesco Trio, and The Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts Quartet. Roberts also leads his own projects and is currently celebrating his eighth record as a leader, Nu-Jive Perspective (Inner Circle Music). This is Nu-Jive’s third album together, which is a quintet consisting of: Troy Roberts – saxophone and compositions, Tim Jago – guitar, Silvano Monasterios– keyboard and piano, Eric England – electric and acoustic bass, and Dave Chiverton – drums. Nu-Jive Perspective presents eleven tracks that has the quintet exploring complex rhythms and forms with ease and a tremendous amount of musicality. Roberts’ saxophone playing is very energetic, and his impeccable time brings his melodies to life. Although the music has many twist and turns, the ensemble flows and makes each track a musical adventure. That’s the short of it!
