Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Mélissa Laveaux is a Canadian artist whose parents are originally from Haiti, and even though she grew up in Canada, the Haiti culture and sounds made an indelible impact on her psyche. Now as a songwriter and musician, she continues to explore the sounds of her heritage. Radyo Siwèl, is the third album from Laveaux – and the twelve songs, all composed by Laveaux, are a marvelous journey through hip grooves and deep lyrics filled with metaphors, all set to identifiable melodies. Laveaux combines the complex and intoxicating African rhythms with European song-forms aesthetics and catchy melodies. Her vocal style is direct and controlled, but full of fun and passion. As with all great Haitian influenced music, Laveaux’s music is very danceable and inspiring to the soul and that’s the short of it!
